Facebook Announces Changes to Improve Fair Housing Compliance

On March 19, 2019, Facebook announced that it is changing its platform for housing, employment, and credit advertisements. Last year Facebook was sued by the National Fair Housing Alliance, the American Civil Liberties Union, and the Communication Workers of America for discrimination. Also last year the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development issued a formal complaint against Facebook for violating the Fair Housing Act by allowing its advertising platform to be used for housing discrimination. Facebook will no longer allow anyone who wants to run housing, employment, or credit ads to target by age, gender, or zip code.
