Where’s Waldo (Paul)

It seems that at least once a year I do a two or three week business trip.  With COVID-19 this year I thought I would not be doing one of these trips but I am wrong.  Here is where I will be the next couple of weeks:

  • Most of this week I am spending in Phoenix with my son, daughter-in-law, granddaughter and my second son.  I am working most of the week in my son’s office but we are getting a couple of rounds of golf in.  I took a couple of lessons on using my driver and sometimes it works and sometimes it does not.
  • On Saturday leave for a 12 hour drive to Amarillo, Texas to meet with two of my clients on Sunday.  Late Sunday, I then drive to Garden City, Kansas.
  • On Monday, I meet with a client on various tax matters.
  • On Tuesday, I speak all day for the Kansas Tax School and then drive to Covington, Oklahoma.
  • On Wednesday, I meet with a client near Covington and once that meeting is done, I then drive to Topeka, Kansas.
  • On Thursday I speak all day virtually in Manhattan, Kansas and once that is done, I head to Springfield, Missouri.
  • On Friday, I meet with a client to review year-end tax planning and once that is done I then start driving to Eau Claire, Wisconsin.
  • On Saturday, I am actually picking up a narrow gauge Model Railroad module that someone is making for me.  I have always been a model railroad fan (and did some layouts in my younger years), but I am starting a new layout in my “man cave” and I had someone work up a 28″ by 7′ module that I have to pick up and then spend two days driving from Eau Claire, Wisconsin to Dayton, Washington.

It appears that I will be driving approximately 4,500 miles between now and next Sunday.  A lot of windshield time but I usually enjoy the drive and will see parts of the country I have not seen before.

I look forward to hearing you virtually from Manhatten!

I have a tax question. If I deliver grain to a coop in the year of 2020 and then defer the payment Till 2021 and then my taxman says that I could use some more income in the 2020 taxation year can I pull some of the deferred money ( payable in 2021) back into the 2020 tax year even though I wouldn’t actually have the money because it would only be on paper and then I would have to subtract that amount from the deferred amount for the 2021 tax year. I enjoy reading your agribusiness blog. Thank you Roger Tiemessen New Hampton iowa
