A Personal Post

Some of you may have been wondering why there were no blog posts for about a week or so.  This post will explain why.

My wife and I have been spending time in Arizona waiting for the birth of our first grandson (our granddaughter turned 2 in November and she is a handful like her dad (and perhaps her granddad)).

My wife and I had gone to the Farmers Market on Saturday January 9 and later that day I noticed I started to have an ache.  I did not get a thermometer until later in the day and noticed I had a slight fever.  Overnight, it got much higher and I elected to get a COVID-19 test on Sunday morning which was supposed to take 15 minutes.  An hour later I get a call saying I had to retake the test since it was too cold (for Arizona).  I took that test and it came back positive.

Our rural county in Washington State had not been affected much by COVID and I thought this would be like the flu.  Well I was wrong.  The first day or two was not too bad but each day after that my fever would be like the Tides.  It would start at about 100.5 and then go up to about 102 and then it would cycle back to about 101 and then go up to 103.  I am sure there were a couple of times where I hit close to 104 based on how hot I felt and was too miserable to even take my temperature.

This cycle of 101-103 fever went on for 12 straight-days when it finally broke on the 13th day and I have been fever-free since then.  However, even though I am not contagious anymore, it does wipe you out for a while.  Today is the first day where I feel “great” and we shall see if that lasts for the full day.  Also, for some reason it affected my voice and I did a 25 minute PPP loan Ag Insights with Chris Hesse yesterday and he said I sounded like an old man.  Today I think I sound back to normal.

Because I tested positive and had a fever, our grandson came a week later than expected but Jackson Neiffer came out healthy on Friday January 22, and is lucky that he looks nothing like his granddad (well maybe a little).

This is the primary reason why there were not many blog posts from about January 10 to the end of last week.  We should be getting back to a normal schedule and I am looking forward to getting some tax returns done.

COVID definitely affects everyone differently.
I never had a fever, but I agree with the “wiped out” Glad you are feeling better. It took me a couple weeks to get back up to full steam again. Glad I got it before Tax season. One less thing to worry about.
