Wyoming Amends Provisions Regarding Notary Fees

by: Paul McSheffrey

With Enrolled Act No. 26, the Legislature of the State of Wyoming has amended its rules regulating notaries. The Act amends W.S. 34-26-302(a)(i) through (vii) to increase the amount of fees that a notarial officer may charge.

Several notarial acts are affected including taking an acknowledgment, administering an oath or affirmation without a signature, jurats, witnessing or attesting a signature, certifying or attesting copies, taking a verification upon oath or affirmation, and noting a protest of negotiable instruments.  For each of the preceding notarial acts, the maximum fee that may be charged has been increased from $2.00 to $5.00. The maximum fees are measured per signature for an acknowledgment, per person for an oath or affirmation, per signature for a jurat, per signature for a signature witnessing, per page for copy certifications, per certificate for verification upon oath or affirmation, and per protest for noting a protest of a negotiable instrument.

These changes become effective on July 1, 2014.
