The amendment clarifies that the California Consumer Privacy Act, which was set to become operative on January 1, 2020, will go in effect immediately upon the bill being signed into law in order to prevent confusion created by the enactment of conflicting local laws regarding the collection and sale of personal information prior to the January 1, 2020 operative date.

California Enacts Building Homes and Jobs Act and Imposes New Fee
The state of California has recently enacted the Building Homes and Jobs Act, effective January 1, 2018. The purpose of the Act is to establish a permanent, ongoing source of funding for affordable housing development. This funding will go to existing state programs that provide assistance for emergency housing, multifamily housing, farmworker housing, home ownership for very low and low-income households, and down payment assistance for first-time home buyers.

California Updates Various Provisions
California has passed Assembly Bill 1650 which amends its real estate licensee advertising requirements to require additional disclosures. Existing law requires that, where a real estate licensee publishes, circulates or distributes in any newspaper or periodical or by mail any matter pertaining to any activity for which a license is required, that the advertisement disclose: that the licensee is performing an act for which a real estate license is required, the licensee’s license identification number, and, in the event the licensee is also a mortgage loan originator, his or her NMLS license number.
