The US has Some Awesome Scenery

Today’s post will not deal with any tax issues and other farming related items, but rather, will share a few photos I took today on our drive from Jackson Hole, Wyoming to West Yellowstone, Montana.  We traveled through the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone National Parks and some of the best scenery in the US is contained in these two parks.  My wife wanted to see some wildlife and we saw Moose, Elk, Deer, Bison, Eagles, etc.  However, the one animal she really wanted to see was a bear and we struck out on that.

On a personal note, about two years ago, she and I were taking a motorcycle trip to Banff.  The second morning we came around a corner and standing in middle of the road was a mid-size black bear (probably about 350 pounds).  I immediately hit the brakes and about 10 seconds later my wife is belting me on my shoulder and telling me to get closer so she could get a better picture.  I, of course, did no such thing since I knew the bear could outrun us on the motorcycle (Harley’s accelerate much slower than an angry bear).

The photos below are of (1) the Grand Tetons as taken at the Jackson Lake Dam area (you can see the reflection of the mountains in the lake) (2) Lewis Falls on the Lewis River as you enter Yellowstone Park from the South Entrance and (3) Old Faithful blowing its top on time at about 10:30 in the morning.  I would guess that about 1,000 or more people were sitting on benches watching this happen.

If you have never been to either park, I would highest encourage you to go.  You will not be disappointed.  I will be teaching farm income and estate taxation tomorrow and Friday in West Yellowstone and will update you with anything worthwhile that I find out from the audience.  If you will be attending, please make sure to let me know at the conference.
