Accounting Boot Camp

Jim Marzolf from our Mankato, Minnesota office and myself are headed to St. Louis on Sunday.  We are part of the Farm Financial Standards Council and along with several other members, we are putting on the first (perhaps annual) accounting boot camp in conjunction with the Farm Futures Summit 2014.  This boot camp will be held on Monday and as of the latest count, there are over 150 farmers signed up for the presentation.

The Farm Financial Standards Council has set various farm financial accounting guidelines to assist farmers and their CPAs to preparing interim and annual financial statements.  I have been part of the council for a couple of years now and just got elected treasurer for the council (I think you get elected if you don’t say no).  I would highly encourage our readers to check out the website and download the two guidelines.  One guideline is for preparing financial statements and the other guideline is for management use of the standards.

If you will be attending the boot camp, please stop me and say hi.  This is probably my favorite part of being the Farm CPA is meeting farmers.  Probably the only thing better is operating the combine during harvest.
